Merida, Mexico

Merida is the largest city on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula; a place where city cool meets colonial Mexican charm. Its enduring Mayan traditions and distinctive architecture, which draws on Renaissance, baroque, Moorish, and Gothic styles, evoke Mexico’s colonial towns, while the large student population lends the area a vibrant urban energy. Merida is also a great base from which to explore the ruins of Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, and Dzibilchaltún, or the quiet beaches of the Flamingo Coast, named for the pink flamingos that inhabit its lagoons.

As a guest of Hacienda Temozón, you can enjoy a handful of customized travel experiences such as private tours guided by archaeologists, historians and field experts, living and dining hacienda style, including cooking classes with celebrated chefs, swimming and dining in total privacy at Cenote Xocempich, or diving in Mayan sacred cenotes. If you are an adventurous eater, be sure to sample the eclectic Yucatecan specialties from food stands at bustling Mercado Lucas de Gálvez.

The Hotel

Recalling the belle epoque era of the Mexican southeast, Hacienda Temozón is a vision in weathered wooden doors, pastel accents and 18-foot ceilings with exposed rafters. You will feel the history here, as the hotel was formerly a private estancia. Today, 28 exquisite bedrooms and suites feature stone walls, iron beds, private plunge pools and cotton hammocks urging you to sink into a siesta. The Hol Be Spa beckons with its candlelit cenote and indigenous spa products, and the Temozón Restaurant tempts you with international cuisine made from local ingredients. Private dinners for two can be easily arranged.

Choosing Hacienda Temozón for your stay implies choosing an out of the ordinary experience as, apart from being in a historical building, you will find sinkholes (cenotes), caves, colonial cities and archaeological sites in the surrounding areas.
